VAT Specialist Accountant - Contract role (6-9 months+) - Twickenham - £250-450pd
With the recent introduction of VAT on school fees, this prestigious private school is seeking an experienced VAT Specialist Accountant to join its finance team on an initial 6-9 month contract. This role will be pivotal in ensuring compliance with VAT regulations while providing expert advice on fee structuring, VAT recovery, and optimizing financial strategies.
1) The Role:
- The VAT Specialist Accountant will be responsible for:
- Managing VAT compliance
- Analysing the school’s fee structure to determine VAT applicability and advising on necessary adjustments.
- Implementing VAT recovery strategies, particularly in relation to partial exemptions.
- Providing training to the finance team on VAT processes and regulations.
- Assisting with VAT on capital projects, such as refurbishments and new constructions.
- Preparing the school for VAT audits and handling disputes with HMRC.
- Offering cash flow forecasts and strategic financial advice to mitigate the financial impact of VAT.
2) Experience Required:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in VAT accounting, with a strong track record of handling complex VAT issues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of VAT regulations, especially in the education sector or other partially exempt organizations.
- Proven experience in managing VAT compliance, returns, and audits.
- Familiarity with VAT recovery on capital expenditures and large-scale purchases.
- Strong understanding of UK tax laws and HMRC processes, particularly in the context of education.
